I am Nadine Anderson a Basketmaker living and making in the Cambridgeshire Fens with more than 25 years on the plank. I grow my own Willow and harvest Rush in the waterways around the city of Ely. I gained my City and Guilds in Creative Basketry in 2004. I have served on the committee of The Basketmakers’ Association as course coordinator for Spring and Autumn schools, and am proud to be a Yeoman Basketmaker of The Worshipful Company of Basketmakers one of the City of London livery companies in existence for more than 450 years.
My work is mostly traditional and functional but create Contemporary pieces as well in more unusual materials such as raffia, leather, and leaf matter foraged or grown. I have taken part in Cambridge Open Studios and have exhibited work in the UK and Europe.
I wrote a chapter for a Rush Basketmaking book published by The Basketmakers’ Association, and have taught hundreds of Basketry based workshops independently and for Adult Education programmes at various Cambridgeshire Village Colleges, Ely Museum, The National Trust, The Cambridge Folk Museum, Cambridge University Botanic Gardens and The Basketmakers’ Association.
Having taken a study sabbatical I am again weaving full time, and somehow find the time to also teach Pilates and Yoga as group and individual classes.
